Shopify SEO Services · Technical Shopify SEO
Shopify SEO expertfor stores that needmore than an app.
I fix what holds Shopify stores back in search: duplicate product URLs, crawl waste from filters, slow app-heavy themes, thin collection pages, and incomplete product schema. Then I build the content that helps your collections and products rank, in Google and in AI shopping answers.
The Short Answer
What does a Shopify SEO expert do?
A Shopify SEO expert fixes the platform-specific issues that limit a store’s rankings, including duplicate collection-based product URLs, crawlable filter and sort pages, app scripts that slow the theme, and missing product structured data. They then optimize collection and product pages around what shoppers search for. Because many of these fixes live in theme code, the best results come from someone who can edit Liquid directly.
If Any of This Sounds Familiar
You’ve installed three SEO apps, and your rankings haven’t moved.
Search Console shows hundreds of “Duplicate” or “Crawled – currently not indexed” pages you never created.
Your store got slower with every app you added, and removing them didn’t bring the speed back.
Collection pages are just a product grid with a heading, and they rank below marketplaces selling the same products.
What’s Included
Shopify SEO, fixed at the theme level
Technical Shopify SEO audit
A full crawl of products, collections, tags, filters, and variants, mapped against what Google has actually indexed in Search Console.
Duplicate URL & crawl waste fixes
Theme changes so internal links use canonical /products/ URLs, plus robots.txt.liquid rules and noindex handling for filter, sort, tag, and search pages.
Theme speed & Core Web Vitals
Removing leftover app code, deferring non-critical scripts, and optimizing images and fonts so the theme passes Core Web Vitals on mobile.
Product & collection page optimization
Keyword-mapped titles, meta descriptions, and headings; collection intro and FAQ copy; image alt text; and internal links between related collections.
Product schema & merchant data
Complete Product, Offer, and Review structured data, including shipping and return details, so listings qualify for richer results and AI shopping answers.
International SEO with Shopify Markets
Subfolder or domain setup per country, hreflang checks, localized content, and currency, for stores selling across the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and beyond.
Common Shopify SEO Issues
What I usually find, and how it gets fixed
| Issue | Why it hurts | The fix |
|---|---|---|
| Collection-based product URLs | Crawl budget spent on duplicates; link signals split | Theme edit so all internal links use /products/ URLs |
| Filter and sort URLs | Thousands of near-identical pages crawled | robots.txt.liquid rules and noindex where needed |
| App script bloat | Slow load times and failing Core Web Vitals | Remove leftover code, defer or replace heavy apps |
| Thin collection pages | Little for Google to rank beyond a product grid | Intro copy, FAQs, and internal links per collection |
| Incomplete product schema | Missed rich results and weaker product data | Full Product, Offer, Review, shipping, and returns markup |
Why e-commerce SEO needs a developer, not just a strategist →
Why a Developer
Most Shopify SEO problems live in the theme
An SEO app can rewrite meta tags. It can’t fix your theme.
Duplicate product links, render-blocking scripts, and broken schema all live in Liquid templates and theme files. As a frontend developer and SEO lead, I make those changes myself, safely on a duplicate theme, instead of handing you a list of recommendations and a developer’s quote.
I led SEO for Mzad Qatar, one of Qatar’s largest multi-category marketplaces, where category structure, duplicate listings, and crawl efficiency decided rankings at scale. See the case studies →

FAQ
Shopify SEO questions, answered plainly
Is Shopify good for SEO?
Yes. Shopify gives you a solid base: SSL, automatic sitemaps, canonical tags, and mobile-friendly themes. Its weak spots are a fixed URL structure, duplicate product URLs created by collections, slow scripts added by apps, and thin collection pages. All of these can be fixed with theme and content changes.
Why does Shopify create duplicate product URLs?
Many themes link to products through collection paths such as /collections/shoes/products/runner, while the canonical version lives at /products/runner. The canonical tag helps, but internal links still send crawlers to the duplicate. The fix is a theme change so every internal link points to the canonical product URL.
Can you edit robots.txt on Shopify?
Yes. Shopify lets you customize robots.txt through a robots.txt.liquid template. It is useful for stopping crawlers from wasting time on filter, sort, and internal search URLs, but it needs care, because one wrong rule can block pages you want indexed.
How do I rank a Shopify store in multiple countries?
Shopify Markets lets you serve each country from its own subfolder or domain, with hreflang tags generated for you. On top of that, each market needs correct currency, localized product and collection copy, and checks that hreflang, canonicals, and sitemaps all agree.
How long does Shopify SEO take to show results?
Technical fixes such as duplicate URLs, crawl waste, and schema can show movement within weeks once Google recrawls the store. Collection content and authority-building usually take three to six months to compound.
Will SEO changes break my live store?
Theme changes are made on a duplicate theme, previewed, and only then published, so your live store keeps running as normal. Every change is documented, so it can be reviewed or rolled back.
